Has an emotional life event coming up- like a wedding, birth, or retirement?

Has a busy schedule that changes constantly-making weekly therapy impossible?

You know what you need to work on, and it feels like time is running out.

What are EMDR Intensives?

EMDR intensives are powerful trauma therapy, fast-tracked. (Think dynamite instead of a shovel). Over the course of 3-5 days we hyper-focus on your specific goal/issue; diving deep with no interruptions.  The result is lasting change in a matter of days, not months.

Why do EMDR Intensives work?

  • The gap between weekly sessions was designed for talk therapy. EMDR is not talk therapy, so there is no need to spend time outside of appointments reflecting.  All processing is done in session with the therapist. Eliminating the unnecessary weekly breaks protects you from being re-triggered or losing momentum.

Because you don’t stay in pain longer than you have to.

  • Think of your brain like a block of clay that is shaped by experiences over time. EMDR therapy puts your brain in an activated state so it can smooth the areas damaged by trauma. By staying in this activated state longer, we can sculpt through deeper layers of trauma quickly.

Because we don’t stop until the work is done.

Session breakdown

  • A 1 hour appt. where we discuss your goals for the upcoming intensive and create a detailed, personalized plan.

We'll also explore your strengths and resources to ensure you feel confident, prepared, and fully aware of what to expect during the intensive.

  • A 3 hour therapy session (that can be repeated up to three times on consecutive days). We follow your personalized plan to lessen the emotional pain caused by negative experiences. We help your brain reframe and reorganize; allowing you to get unstuck with new insight.

  • A 1 hour appt. to reflect on your intensive experience. We explore what it feels like to have relief from the emotional pain AND a fresh perspective on things. We also identify the next best steps to continue living with purpose and freedom after therapy.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions about EMDR Intensives.

  • EMDR intensives involve longer sessions over a condensed period, allowing clients to process distressing memories more quickly compared to traditional weekly therapy. Weekly EMDR therapy typically involves a minimum commitment of 6-9 months.  Intensive EMDR is typically able to achieve the same results in as little as 3 days.

    Here’s the breakdown:

Typically in a 60-minute session, there are at least 5-15 minutes of “check-in” at the start of the session and usually, 5-15 minutes spent on “closing up” or “checking out” at the end of a session - Leaving only 30-40 minutes for deep therapeutic work. Therapy Intensives are different. A 3-hour Therapy Intensive allows for 2.5 hours of depth work. That’s the equivalent of five 60-minute sessions or more than a month of therapy - in a single day!

  • What might take months of weekly therapy can be achieved in just a few days with intensive work. This results in significant savings over time, though the up-front cost of an intensive is higher than weekly therapy.

    Here’s the breakdown:

My clients typically resolve a single trauma memory in 12 weekly sessions. This represents a total cost of $2220. For most clients, a 3 day EMDR intensives is able to achieve the same result at a cost of $1300.

  • Therapy Intensives are perfect for people that are ready for relief now. If you’re ready to see things change in your life and your relationships but you don’t want to wait for that to happen next year - a Therapy Intensive may be right for you. If you have a specific topic, trauma, or stressor that you want support with - this can be the focus of your Therapy Intensive. The dedicated time will be customized specifically to you and your goals.

  • Great question! This depends on your goals for the Therapy Intensive. Some goals can be reached in a 3 Day Intensive, but other goals are more complex and may require a 4 or 5 Day Intensive. I can help you determine the number of days that would work best for your therapy goals during our free initial phone consultation.

  • Absolutely! Therapy Intensives work very well as an adjunct therapy. I would ask that you sign a Release of Information so that your current therapist and I can collaborate/coordinate to best serve you.

  • A 50% non-refundable deposit is due at the time you book your Therapy Intensive. The remaining 50% is due on the first day of the Intensive Session, before starting our appointment.

  • Therapy Intensives are not covered by insurance. However, if you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may reimburse a portion of the Therapy Intensive. It’s best to call the customer service number on the back of your insurance card to learn the details about your specific plan.

Make sure to ask questions like: Do I have a deductible for out-of-network services? Have I met my deductible? What CPT billing codes do you reimburse (i.e. 90837 or two 90843 in one day)? What is the rate of reimbursement for each billing code? What is the allowable amount for reimbursement?
